Recognize, Repair, and Repeat Board Member Roles and Responsibilities

 

Overview

Recognize, Repair, and Repeat (R3) Board is a passionate group of professionals dedicated to supporting the mission of the charitable arm of Civility Management Solutions. The R3 Board of Directors intends to carry out the mission of R3 by creating various fundraising events in the Eastern and Midwest regions of the United States. By donating our time and raising funds, we are nurturing the betterment of women of disadvantaged communities, Women veterans, and their families. Founder of R3 and President of the Board Laurie Sayles is dedicated to serving these groups, whom she is and has been part of. Your role as a board member is to be an active agent of change, and a responsive resource as R3 seeks to educate and advocate for these groups and partner with organizations, entities, and individuals that share this mission.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Actively raise philanthropic revenue by encouraging personal and professional networks to contribute to fundraising initiatives and events.
  • Encouraged to regularly volunteer at the academy to make an impact and connect with the organization.
  • Serve as a fundraising ambassador on behalf of the board.
  • Assist in identifying, cultivating, and recruiting diverse members to the committee.
  • Consider serving as an event co-chair for a signature fundraising event.

 

Anticipated Time Commitment

  • Term limits - 2-year terms, renewable option available
  • Meeting requirements - attendance at 75% of monthly meetings is anticipated to occur on the first Tuesday of every month (participants may join by phone). This includes various subcommittee meetings, fundraising events, and social events.
  • Participate in two days of service during the term of membership.
  • Annual donation of $250

Board Position Descriptions

 

Vice Chair

As vice chair, he or she will be responsible for supporting the roles and responsibilities of the chair. The vice chair is the trusted second-in-command to the chair so this person will have some parallels and similar duties. In addition to facilitating board meetings and encouraging other members to actively participate, the board vice chair will serve as the primary contact for executive management, working closest with the executive director.

Other main duties may include:

  • Heading up the executive director’s annual performance evaluation.
  • If applicable, addressing and sometimes mediating board conflict.
  • Representing the organization when approached by the media or other groups.
  • Presiding over meetings, signing contracts, and other presidential duties when the president is absent.
  • Ensuring the board’s directions are implemented and followed through.
  • Completing tasks delegated by the chair.

 

Secretary

He or she will be responsible for accurately recording and maintaining meeting minutes for each board meeting. They’ll also keep up with directors’ contact information to inform them about upcoming meetings. Your primary role is to monitor the R3’s activities to make sure the actions of the organization follow the bylaws.

 

Treasurer

He or she will be responsible for managing the organization’s budget and records of receipts and disbursements. While the treasurer is not required to be an accountant, this person should have experience in keeping track of financials and be the organization’s point of accountability—even if the bookkeeping is outsourced. This person is usually one of the signatories for the nonprofit’s bank accounts.

 

Marketing and PR Chair

He or she will be responsible for overseeing all external communication things, including communications, media, public relations, and marketing.

 

Hiring and Organizational Planning Chair

He or she will be responsible for handling all internal and operational issues that relate to capital acquisitions, personnel, and buildings. Additionally, this chair recruits new members, holds orientations, creates meeting materials, and evaluates the board’s performance.

 

Donor and Community Engagement Chair

He or she facilitates, coordinates, and supports community partnerships, outreach, and engagement initiatives. The primary responsibility of this role is to identify new strategies and resources that will help foster and promote positive and productive relationships with community members and donors. You will also be expected to provide the Board with quarterly reports summarizing activities from the previous year and plans for the year to come.

 

Grant and Funding Chair

He or she will Lead the development of a fundraising plan and strategy that balances individual giving, corporate giving, grant funding, and/or other strategies; Direct the creation and execution of fundraising campaigns, in collaboration with interns or other volunteers; Direct the creation of donor communications and materials, in collaboration with the Marketing and PR Chair; and Oversee grant research, writing, and application submission, in collaboration with BRG interns or other volunteers.

 

Board Member At Large

He or she will serve as a liaison between the community and the board. The main role of a Member at Large is to provide support to the Board of Directors and to act as an intermediary party between the Board and the rest of the membership. Their duties and responsibilities will vary and will most likely be determined by the association's current needs.
